The Churches, Basilicas & Sanctuaries of Val d'Ossola have a wealth of magnificent, awe-inspiring Cathedrals. Sanctuaries, Churches and Basilicas. They are of varying ages ranging from those constructed in the 5th century to those completed in the 19th century and they come in all shapes and sizes and all manner of architectural styles. The Piedmont region and the neighboring region of Lombardy have their "fair share" of these splendid structures filled with superb works of art consisting of murals, frescoes, bas reliefs, and statues carved from solid blocks of granite or marble. Val d'Ossola is home to many antique, unique houses of worship which are primarily of the Roman Catholic faith. The mountainous terrain forced the people to build the churches on the sides of, or on the tops of the mountains. Usually, in the villages, the churches were built on the highest ground, making them the highest building "in town." During your tour of this exquisite valley you will visit many of the churches as described herein. Of course, in Milan you will pay a visit to the second largest cathedral in Italy, I1 Duomo (the largest is Saint Peter's in Rome). You will also thrill at the sight of Leonardo DaVinci's ORIGINAL Last Supper and you will see some of Milan's other famous old churches. By the time your tour ends, you will be an "expert" in the churches of Val d'Ossola. God bless!!!!
